Capital Strategy Syllabus

4 hours of instruction

4 x 1 hour classes for 4 weeks

Course Overview

In this Capital Strategy Program, startups will learn and define a Capital Strategy for their business. We’ll cover defining critical milestones, identifying the size of capital needs by stage, and identifying sources of capital. We’ll also review term sheet conditions and review future business scenarios with different valuations.

In this course, you’ll learn the key stage milestones of raising capital, defining a compelling investor pitch, how to take investor meetings, and understanding term sheet conditions and functions.

This module consists of instruction hours of 4 x 1 hour sessions a week, for 4 weeks. At the end of the program, you’ll receive a certificate of completion of the Capital Strategy Program.

Instructor

Mark Bregman has been an integral part of leading Silicon Valley companies, initiatives and culture for the last 30 years, with deep involvement at the highest levels of technology research. He played groundbreaking roles in semiconductor R&D and manufacturing, UNIX® systems development, and have been privileged to hold executive management positions in some of the industry’s most acclaimed public companies and innovative startups.

These include 16 years at IBM® and IBM Japan, culminating with mission-critical roles as GM of both the RS/6000™ workstation group and the Pervasive Computing division.

He is the founding Partner of Quidnet Ventures and leads Quidnet Innovations, which helps companies innovate like a startup leveraging outside-in thinking, strategic reframing, and rapid cycle iterative development.

Capital Sources and Contingencies

In this session, we’ll cover identifying sources of capital as well as contingency planning for capital.

Day 4

Feeding the Machine

In this session, we’ll cover what investors are looking for and what makes a compelling story. We’ll also review how to hold meetings with investors and how to pitch them.

Day 5

Term Sheets

This session covers term sheets conditions, and different scenarios that can occur with different forms of a capital raise.
